Remote Access Processor
(RAP鈩? Chip
Datasheet
The L64388 Remote Access Processor (RAP鈩? chip is a general-
purpose, high-performance communications processor for remote access
applications, including high-speed Ethernet LAN-to-WAN
internetworking. Based on LSI Logic鈥檚 CoreWare
廬
methodology, the
RAP chip integrates a MIPS RISC processor, DMA controller, Ethernet
controller, and serial wide area network controllers (SWCs) on a single
chip. The RAP chip also includes a peripheral component interconnect
(PCI) interface for connecting to a 33-MHz, 32-bit PCI bus. It contains a
modem interface with integrated voice and data ports.
Figure 1 illustrates the RAP chip in a general internetworking application.

including POTS (plain old telephone system), ISDN (integrated services
digital network), or high-speed digital WAN, such as ADSL (asymmetric
digital subscriber line), DS-1/E-1, DS-3, or HFC (hybrid 鏗乥er coaxial).
