DESCRIPTION
The CX77141 Power Amplifier Module for Wideband Code Division Multiple Access
(WCDMA) is packaged in a 50 ohms matched, 8-pin, surface mount module for 1920鈥?980
MHz handset applications. Quiescent current can be adjusted by changing the voltage on
the VCONT pin to achieve higher power-added efficiency over the entire output power range
up to 27.0 dBm while simultaneously maintaining the high linearity requirements of a
WCDMA handset amplifier.
Manufactured with Skyworks鈥?Heterojunction Bipolar Transistor (HBT) process, a single
Gallium Arsenide (GaAs) Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuit (MMIC) contains all the
active RF, interstage, and input matching circuits within the module. A CMOS IC controls the
GaAs MMIC by supplying integrated bias controls for the driver and the final amplifier stages
based on the voltage applied to the external pin, VCONT. An enable circuit will power-down
the module when the voltage on the low current VENABLE pin is set low. The output match,
realized within the module package, optimizes efficiency/linearity at maximum rated output
power.
The CX77141 amplifier does not require an external reference voltage. Primary bias to the
CX77141 can be supplied directly from a three-cell nickel cadmium battery, a single-cell
lithium ion battery, or other suitable batteries with output voltages of 3.2 to 4.2 volts. No
external supply-side switch is needed during power down since the typical "off" leakage is
a few microamperes at rated handset battery voltages.
