Voice over Packet Processor for Client Applications
Functional Description
Overview
The
AC4830xC-C
supports 1, 2 or 4 low bit rate voice, fax or data transmission channels. For voice
transmission, the analog inputs are digitized by external PCM codecs, input through the
AC4830xC-C's
PCM interface, and compressed to one of the supported bit rates. The compressed voice/fax/data
bit streams are transmitted to the host processor through the
AC4830xC-C's
Parallel Interface.
The voice receive operation is performed simultaneously with the voice transmit operation. The compressed
voice/fax packets from a remote unit are received from the host processor through the Parallel Interface.
The packetized voice/fax bit streams are de-compressed to 64 kbps 碌/A-law PCM bit streams and output
through the PCM interface to a time division multiplexed PCM highway or external PCM codecs. The
channels can operate simultaneously with different voice coders or fax relay at different bit rates in each
channel. The packet exchange with the host depend on the frame size of the selected voice codec. In every
access to the
AC4830xC-C
the host reads the outgoing voice/fax payload and status packet and writes the
incoming voice/fax payload and control packet.
Soft upgradability
The
AC4830xC-C
feature set can be updated by a downloadable software upgrade by the host processor
prior to start of operation. This allows the addition of new features in future product releases without system
hardware modifications.
